"I want to give my students the resources to reach their highest potential!

I teach sixth and seventh grade science and social studies at an under served, high need community in Louisiana. I teach at a charter school whose aim is to create emerging leaders out of our students. Our school days are rigorous. We are on an extended day and an extended school year because we are committed to our students. Our students are brilliant and they deserve the resources to prove it.

I am a new teacher teaching at a school with limited resources. For many of my students buying a calculator would cause hardship, as many of them experience difficulties obtaining basic school supplies.

I need 42 scientific calculators to help my students perform higher level math and science functions. I assign homework with this same level of mathematical rigor. It would be very beneficial to my students if I had calculators that I could check out to them for the year. This way, socioeconomic status would not be a factor in my students' success.

Your help will give my students an opportunity to master higher level content. You will be supplying them with a resource that they would not be able to obtain otherwise. You will also help a first year teacher whose sole aim is the academic success of her students.

My students need 42 scientific calculators.

Dear Kim, Meghan, David, CLAUDIA, Amanda and HP,

I can't thank you enough for your donation to my project! I am so excited that you have taken an interest in advancing the opportunities that my students have in the classroom. These calculators are going to help my students to reach their highest potential in math and science.

In class, my students have to calculate mathematical functions that can be difficult to compute on paper. The calculators you have funded will now allow my students to show that they have the skills to compute these functions. Most of my students have never used a scientific calculator and will be so excited for the opportunity to use one!

These calculators will also help my students with their work in other classes. Further, these calculators will serve as a resource for students in my class for years to come!

With gratitude,
Ms. V.
