Close your eyes and picture a child who is wheelchair bound. Imagine seeing that child's humble face when other children run and play during activities. Now, picture that child as a part of the group, playing and laughing with them as he participates in the games. Imagine seeing that beautiful face glow, because he knows that he is doing the same activity as all of the other kids... "He's one of them." I teach third grade in a low socio-economic region of Indiana. The resources are slim and we have insufficient playground and physical education equipment. I have a para-pelagic student in my class who loves to play with the parachute because he can do what the other children are doing; however, our parachute is too small for his wheelchair to go under or lift it above him.

The obstacle in my school is funding. As with many schools in the nation currently, there is a budget crunch. This crunch means that playground equipment and parachutes are the least important items to fund right now. Therefore, my student and many others will go without, as usual. I would love the opportunity to make this the year that he doesn't feel left out.

With your help, we will be able to give this student, as well as many others the ability to be a part of the group and cooperate in activities. It's not much to ask, and he never complains, but the cold harsh truth is that he is unable to play certain games and sports. The parachute is the one game he can fully be involved in and we don't have one to give him that opportunity.

Please help me give these children the chance to enjoy each other through physical play. This parachute would give over 200 students each year the opportunity to play and learn from one another. You are our only chance for providing this for our students.
