Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

We're public school that's freshly become a charter with a brand new pre-kindergarten teacher.

The new administrators got the keys to the building the middle of this summer and school starts in August. Everyone is scrambling to get books, paper, re-key the building...and trying to set up a whole new program in a school that's been labeled failing over and over!

One of the simplest things that our kids need to succeed is a wealth of books. Books help encourage creativity and expand the horizons of subjects my students care about. I want my students to be exposed to a variety of books in order to find their interests and continue to explore learning. I'm requesting books. Specifically, poetry that will inspire my kids to reach for their dreams. The books I've selected will also help them improve their phonemic awareness and rhyming skills. They will need to be able to manipulate language to gain literacy skills down the line. By increasing literacy at a pre-K level, my students' reading and writing skills will improve at every level.

By helping fill my students' hands with books, you'll ensure that 4 year olds know the expanse of both the world and their potential. I know that when you help my students' literacy skills it'll help ensure my students are ready for college in 2023!
