My students need 7 Physics Solar Workshops.

Hooray! This project is fully funded

Hello! I am the only full time science teacher at our rural school district. I teach grades 6 through 12 in a low socioeconomic status school. Most of my students have a "farming" mentality, and while that ethic inspires hard work, I also want them to know that there are wonderful attainable careers out there for them in the broad field of science.

Every year, talking about space, the sun and the moon is a favorite topic for my 6th grade class. While discussing these things inspires them, I want my students to be able to build something that will actually run on solar power. I know that kids learn better when they are actively involved in creating a project. When they get excited about learning, that transfers to a person who not only wants to know that subject material, but is genuinely looking forward to learning more.

This Physics Solar Workshop will enable me to not only teach about the sun and its power, but will allow me to introduce several other topics at the same time such as environmental pollution, mechanics, and physical science topics such as gears and motors.

You will make it possible for my students to create their own solar powered vehicles, windmills, etc. while learning how solar cells transfer light energy into electrical energy. This donation will not only benefit this year's class, but because it is nonconsumable, it will benefit my 6th grade students for many years to come. I thank you very much on the behalf of my students for your consideration of this project.
