This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach in a high-need community where access to print is limited. Many of my students do not visit libraries or bookstores because there aren't any in their neighborhood.
My students simply don't have books. They don't visit libraries or bookstores, and I am trying to inspire a love for literature.
For my students to have a copy of the novel we are reading in class that they don't have to share would be something most of them have never experienced. It would enable me to spend my time really teaching instead of rationing out the novels and making copies.
Your donation can make this group of inner city 5th graders an experience they will never forget. For these kids to have their own book to hold, read, and use for assignments would really help me inspire their love for books. It will help me teach them how to care for books, how to use them, and that having their own can be a reality. I want them to really love this year of Language Arts and am planning on trying to teach through novels to prepare them for Middle and High School.
