"Critical thinking can and must be taught. Our school, over 50% free and reduced lunch, is looking to expand Advanced Placement Options for motivated students. We are looking to help prepare students for college by offering challenging courses.

Our area has been decimated by the recent economic downturn. The decline in construction and related industries have resulted in an unemployment rate far higher than the national average. Students are being exposed to more complex levels of government than they every envisioned. As a result, budgets are being restricted at the expense of innovation. We are also facing the reality of legacy that does not expect students to excel academically. Only 35% of the students from my district end up at four year universities. We are beginning to confront this fact.

Students thrive on challenges and they love controversy. The readings in this book, CLUED in to Politics will encourage students to explore and expose the arguments made by politicians. An engaged and educated citizenry is essential for our democracy.

Your help will allow my students to apply concepts, to form their own perspectives, and to challenge one another.

My students need 25 copies of "Clued in to Politics".
