"Students call it puzzling, creating, building, designing or playing. Teachers call it learning!
I teach math to students in an urban elementary public school. About 70% of my students come from families in need. The student population includes children from a variety of cultural backgrounds and socioeconomic levels. My school is no different than many urban public schools in that there is a significant achievement gap between students who come from families of means and those who come from families fighting poverty. One reason for this gap is experience or lack there of. My goal is to provide children with as many meaningful experiences with math as I can. Math manipulatives not only support the skills that students are being taught in the classroom, but extend them into different contexts. Offering students a variety of tactile experiences to support their learning will help them practice what they have learned, retain new information and help them improve their ability to problem solve in new situations. Your donation will give many students plenty of opportunities to puzzle, create, build, design and play their way to better mathematical understanding and along the way, perhaps even learn to love math!
My students need 23 math manipulatives such as dominoes, dice, tangrams, and pentomino puzzles.

Dear Sun, Paul Schmitz, Mr. Thome, Uncle Larry, Stephanie and Anonymous Donors,
I deeply appreciate your donation to this project. It is amazing that so many people come together in an effort to improve the learning of children they may or may not know. I so look forward to getting these materials into the hands of children and watching them explore and question, build and create, puzzle and wonder.
The manipulatives you have provided for us will give students the opportunity to experience math in a way that many adults never knew. For some, math was an individual, quiet, sit at your desk, paper and pencil activity. These days, math can mean noisy group work, getting up, moving around and exploring! It brings me great joy to be able to share with my students the wonderful world of mathematics. Thanks for making this possible. With gratitude, Ms. T.

"Thanks everyone for your generosity! Please tell all your friends! This request expires in a few days!
Now that I work with all of the children in the building, it is safe to say that 413 students will get use out of these math manipulatives. Imagine all of the learning and exploring that they will do!
Thanks again!"
