"I don't want to teach boring math anymore, and my students don't want to ignore it anymore! I am a math teacher of active 6th graders in a Title I urban school. Young ones from this area learn so differently from days past and with such a wide range of abilities. Ending my second year as a teacher, I have some experience and I am ready to make a change for these kids! It is time to make math interesting and keep the kids accountable too. No one likes to be lectured. Children that have a particular gift for absorbing information are becoming bored and troublesome at the lack of stimulation in my school and the students who struggle academically aren't being held accountable in my classroom. I've done a lot of research, gone to a few seminars, and I've decided its time to JOURNAL! BUT, I don't have any journals! This is a clear and basic need. The students need something sturdy and reliable that they can draw, diagram, cut and paste, take notes and collaborate with research and experiments in. Unfortunately, in our area students can't always afford their own and our school is cutting back its budget. Will you please help us? Through many Google adventures I came upon a lot of teachers who had success giving students a new and creative outlet for traditional math. It is a lot like the journal that Indiana Jones keeps with diagrams, histories, pictures and freewrites inside. It is a true student creation that they can be proud of! Can you imagine Indiana Jones lugging around his Math Textbook to figure out where the Holy Grail is? I don't think so. The text is a resource. My students want to find the Holy Grail of learning. They need journals just like Indy. Journals that they can fill with their thoughts, experiences, and THEIR learning. Please will you help us start our adventure?
My students need 150 personal composition books for journaling.

Dear Susie, Tom, Mildred, Chris Scafario, Anne, Kathleen, Heather, The Book Monkeys, Lisa, Stephen, THE coolest sister ever! and HP,
It is such a relief to know that there are people out there like yourselves that care so deeply for the education of our young ones. Thank you so much for making our Math Journals possible with your donations. With your help, my students will be able to enjoy a math classroom dedicated to visual representations and study aids that will help them to learn and retain the information I teach. More importantly the students will be able to show pride in academic achievement using a creative outlet that you have provided us! I have already shared my journaling idea with other teachers, so not only have you provided me the means to teach a successful year, but you have also inspired our whole school to unify our curriculum and get excited about math once again! With gratitude, Ms. E.
