I teach Texas military children, in grades PK - 5. My students have a yearning for technology-rich lessons to engage and prepare them for success in life.
My students thrive with technology. In a technology-driven world that can often be out of reach for the military families, students enjoy being introduced and engaged in lessons that extend their minds, grasp their imaginations, and fill them with hope. Committed to working hard and taking pride in their products, they come before school and during recess just to work. I would like to increase their reading achievement and teach them digital storytelling. With free software like Photo Story 3, students can take pictures of their work, upload them, add audio recordings to narrate their story, and finally export it to recordable discs. These can be enjoyed by students in reading centers across the campus.
I am in need of headsets with microphones, digital cameras for student use, and recordable discs for final projects. These will be used solely by our military children in all grade levels. This project will greatly assist in raising academic achievement through relevant work. Students designing stories and sharing them digitally raises self-esteem, provides opportunity for excelling, and allows them to show pride in their work with a medium they may not otherwise have the opportunity to use.
Your help will ensure my students have a way to complete digital storytelling projects. You will make it possible for these military children to have a novel way of sharing their work, expressing their feelings, and connecting with new media. Won’t you please help me show these students how reading can be fun?
