I am fortunate to teach lively kindergartners at a public elementary school which opened its doors for the first time in 2008. Because we are a new school, funding is extremely limited, and due to the current nature of the economy, funding will continue to be a concern.
Our students are excited to learn, but the lack of funding for creative art materials makes all the difference in the type of learning experience we can provide. Our school is committed to the study of art through classroom art presentations featuring reproductions of famous works of art. At the conclusion of each presentation, our students have the opportunity to create their own works of art using elements and techniques that reflect what was learned during the presentation. Various artistic mediums are encouraged, allowing students the opportunity to express themselves in a multitude of ways. This unique approach to the study of Art is not only embraced by the students, but praised by parents. In addition, these monthly presentations allow our school to comply with California and National Visual Arts Standards.
With your help, we can purchase those art materials that will give our students the opportunity to experience a whole new world: scissors, tissue paper, glue, markers, oil pastels, crayons, and more! Imagine a child picking up an oil pastel for the first time. It looks very similar to a crayon, but the moment that pastel hits the paper, all comparisons stop there. The color is rich and vivid; the lines are smooth and thick, and the children are delighted to experience something new. Learning how to use new art materials is half the fun, but exploring the endless possibilities is what makes this a timeless investment.
You can ensure that our students have a well-rounded education with an appreciation of the wonderful world of art. You can bring them one-step closer to utilizing those tools that will help them realize their uniqueness, encourage their creativity, and boost their self-confidence. We are grateful for your thoughtful consideration of our project, and thank you in advance for your generosity!
