SPRK Interest in Robotics

My Students

I have a wide variety of students in my classes. Some are connected to the university across the road and others might be new immigrants to the country. Many of my students are put in my classes because they like using technology but have never created anything with it. Still others are there because they love working with technology and there is no limit to what they can do.

My students like to create things with technology.

They are hands-on learners who are learning to problem solve with technology. I'm always looking for alternate ways to keep them learning.

My Project

Learning robotics and coding is a necessary 21st century skill. I know my students will love to learn to code through accessible robotics. Hands-on coding through robotics is becoming a best practice in computer science education.

Spheros are fast, colorful, and collaborative STEAM tools for nurturing students’ imaginations.

Students can use their phones and tablets to program and play with these exciting robots. Currently, I have one Sphero robot that has attracted students from throughout the school to play with it. This project will allow me to buy enough robots so that I could teach the basics of coding and robotics with them. I'm excited to see what competitions and projects my students will come up with for these cool robots.
