Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am the librarian at an amazing elementary school. Though almost 90% of the students at our school receive free lunch, they are showing amazing growth and working very hard to learn each day. Last year, our school was excited to learn that we had some of the largest academic gains of any elementary school in the entire school district.

Our library is very popular! Students come here weekly to choose books and enjoy some quiet reading time. However, most of the books that we currently have are fictional. Students do love stories, but they also yearn to learn about interesting topics in their world.

If we had some science-themed books, I know that the students would love them. The science books I've picked out range from Magic School Bus books (that are so great at teaching science through fun stories) to non-fiction books about space, cars, and the human body's skeletal system.

Thank you so much for considering this - it will help almost 250 students! I just know that the science section of the library will be the most popular once we are able to get it started!
