I have an eclectic group of young people in my legal studies class representing many religions, races and ethnic groups. I have students from 21 different regions, races or cultures.
Students in my class are 14-16 years old and just getting started in our wonderful law program.
We begin with law related speech class and we write opening statements, parole board hearings, reviews of laws and other topics in the news. The students are passionate and interested in what is going on in the world and society and they also care very much about legal issues and controversies. One of the biggest challenges is getting students to see that they have the talent and ability to become this next generation of police officers, judges, senators, lobbyists, advocates, mediators and Supreme Court justices.
My Project
The three little bears want charges brought against Goldilocks for breaking and entering into their home! Prince Charming is in trouble for kissing a sleeping beauty who did not give consent. The princess costumes, the crown, the cape and other tools for role play will add excitement to the class trials.
This project is going to bring alive the students hard work during 4th quarter on their mock trials.
As a class, students break into teams and put fairy tales on trial to learn about law and courtroom procedure. It's a wonderful way for first year law students to learn about how our justice system works in the trial courts.
