I teach Biology and AP Biology at a high-need high school. I want to make learning meaningful and engage my students in the process. One of the ways I want to motivate and challenge my students is by incorporating interesting science readings to promote seminar discussions and inquiry based lessons into the classes.
My students are very intrigued on human evolution and on why some populations are more prone to certain diseases than others. I want my students to ask themselves some basic questions pertaining to the origins of disease. I also want them to think why we have different blood types, and basically why we are all different.
In order to promote this forward thinking among my students and support the inquiry based lessons and student led seminars we need 25 copies of the New York Times Bestseller "Survival of the Sickest" by Dr. Sharon Moalem. This book will help them get a better understanding on why differences among human populations exist from the perspective of evolution and adaptation to the environment. This book will also promote student reading in science, writing, and participation in student led seminars.
Your help will ensure that my students learn about the origin of diseases and the evolutionary reasons on why we are all different. Furthermore, your donation will also help them learn to respect each other no matter how different we can all be.
