I am a Middle School Special Education teacher. I organize a weekly after-school writing club where students come to write and reflect on their lives.
Middle School students are often looking for a place and space to help make sense of their lives. Our writing club gives them a space and place to talk about what it is like to be a middle school student in an open forum weekly. In between session students read published entries from other teenagers and are asked to reflect on their own lives.
The proposal asks for 30 blank journals for our middle school writing. Providing this resource will give 30 students a space and place to make sense of their lives outside of the writing club. Just writing words on paper can often be a powerful experience.
This proposal will go a long way. Providing these journals will not only give our students a place and space, but something that is their own.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
