Our students are special because their parents are students themselves! Our infants and toddlers have parents that are enrolled in the GRADS program at our high school. Our parents range in ages 15-20 at the moment. Their families are struggling to provide a stable environment for the newest addition to their family. Often, the first language spoken at home is not English, and home is always changing. Some of our infants and toddlers are homeless, mom and dad might be sleeping on a couch or renting a room at uncle's house. Some of our students are living with aunts, uncles, cousins and Grandparents!
The GRADS childcare center strives to provide a safe, educational, and stable environment.
Last spring we were rated through Washington States Early Achievers program. It was intense and stressful. We are happy to report we earned a high 3. This means that the areas where we thrive are in the Interactions and the environment we provide for our youngest students. It also means that our infant and toddler teachers are highly educated and very experienced.
My Project
In the GRADS program we strive to give our youngest students the best education possible. We provide infants, toddlers, and their parents with the chance to develop all skills needed to be successful in school and in life. We care for the the youngest children emotionally, socially, and physically. The requested supplies will aid in giving the best education possible.
We strive to educate a well rounded child.
Our children work on social and emotional, cognitive, physical, creativity and literacy skills. For example, art work not only lets them freely express themselves, it will also go home and become a treasured gift for mom and dad. We ask for the storage shed so that we can be organized. When we are organized we can spend more time teaching.
The sand will go in our sand pit. When toddlers play in sand they learn about volume, gravity, water, physics, energy, and they practice social skills while playing with other children. The toddlers teachers would like wind chimes and glass prisms to aid in teaching about light and the weather. Our infants and toddlers love to dance. We've requested 2 CDs with specific educational activities that allow the infants and toddlers to develop their gross motor skills in a fun and engaging manner.
Our teachers have requested the office supplies and batteries. The office supplies aid in developing lesson plans, and the batteries go in cameras to document what they are learning.
