Inclusion is our name, third grade is our game! I am a third grade teacher in an upper middle class neighborhood. My class is an inclusion class which has a mix of regular and special education students with disabilities ranging from downs syndrome to autism.
Our students have shown a great interest in social studies this year. The lessons that we teach are usually hands on, so that we can engage all of the different types of learners in our classroom. We would like to complete a research project on African American heroes and women heroes during black history and women's history month.
In order to complete this project we will need plain white t-shirts for the children to create their hero t-shirt. Once the children have completed their research on the Internet, they will use the information to create a hero t-shirt. They will iron on a picture of their hero and a few facts about them. Then we will allow them to be creative and decorate the shirt.
They will gain knowledge and the shirt will be a life long memento of their research. Once the shirts are done we will have a hero t-shirt day where the students will wear their shirts and share facts about their hero with the class.
Your help will ensure that my students gain knowledge about all of the African American and female heroes in history. This project is something that my regular and special education students will be able to participate in, and the knowledge they gain will be ingrained in them forever. Your help will truly make this an outstanding learning experience for my entire class!
