Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a Kindergarten Teacher who teaches at a Title 1 charter school in an urban neighborhood. Our mission is to develop students into successful individuals that will be able to be an active member of their community and be responsible citizens. We believe that our students will achieve a high level of academic achievement and will be prepared to achieve a level of success in college. Through a variety of projects, we teach and show our kids how to be responsible citizens in their communities.

READ BABY READ! is our school motto. We encourage our students to read daily and encourage them to read for fun and to fall in love with reading books. Last year, our school set a school wide goal of reading for 3 million minutes. We accomplish that goal by mid-year. This year, our school goal is to read for 5 million minutes. So far, we are reaching our goal at a fast rate. Students are required to read daily at home with their families. Unfortunately, many our students do not have the necessary leveled reading books at home. It is difficult to read when you don't understand the text and the words in the book.

To help my students out, I am requesting different leveled reading books for my Kindergarten students. I have a wide range of readers in my class and I would like to offer them their own book that is appropriate for them. These books will help student read, write, develop a love for books and knowledge, reading comprehension skills, and vocabulary. These books will not belong to the school but to the students.

With your support and donation, you are ensuring that these students will develop a love for reading. You will also be helping to increase reading comprehension skills and applying these skills in the first grade and beyond. You will also make it possible for these students to have their own book that they can cherish.
