This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Science can be taught most effectively to children where there are opportunities for experiential learning and a hands-on approach. I teach the third grade in a Spanish immersion school in a public school.
I would like to teach the third grade science curriculum in a manner that allows students to touch, feel, question and ultimately learn and retain. I would like my students to understand that science is an exciting area of study, and that there is much more to science than worksheets.
While I try to create new and innovative ways of teaching the standard curriculum in science, the fact that we do not have any of the requested science equipment that allows my students to use their senses, see that which can not be seen by the naked eye or study the bones in the body using a 3-dimensional approach hampers my ability to fully teach in a creative and experiential manner.
Your help will make it possible for the students to explore science and understand its wonders using an experiential and hands-on approach.
