Miss, I Don't Want to Read Any of These.

My students need sets of various books. They need 1 copy of 17 different book titles, including Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Series, Hilari Bell's Farsala Trilogy, mysteries by Agatha Christie, and Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Blide's classroom raised $232

I am a first year English teacher. I teach ninth and tenth graders at a public high school in New York. I have several students who are struggling with basic reading comprehension as well as a few that are learning English as a second language.

Many of my students are reluctant readers, so I have been working on finding high interest texts to entice them to read independently outside of class. Independent reading at home is very important because it allows students to continue to practice the reading strategies we are learning in class. I am a new teacher and I have inherited a very outdated library. The few high interest texts that I do have, like the last Harry Potter book and works by Maya Angelou are in such high demand that I have waiting lists for who gets to read them next.

Interesting books keep my students hooked and reading. Even students that have trouble focusing are amazingly engaged when they find a book that interests them. While I am trying to broaden their interests by exposing them to new authors and styles, they still need to read at home to work on their comprehension and vocabulary.

Your help will make it possible for my students to read books that truly interest them. These 17 books I have selected are the most frequently requested titles within my classes. Students who read independently are expanding their vocabularies, comprehension, and exposure to new ideas.
