My students need 9 hands-on science equipment such as graduated cylinders, magnifying glasses, and vivid photographic books about weather and life cycles so they can experience science first-hand.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Our inner-city classroom has twenty 2nd-grade students, eager to explore their world through science.
Science is, quite simply, the ability to identify a problem, and to use problem-solving skills to find a solution. Sometimes the solution works. Other times, you have to try again. You do more research. You ponder the possibilities. You try again.
Science teaches children to persevere -- to never give up -- to try and try again. It teaches students to look at problems from all angles.
Science isn't just for our 30 minute science class! We want to integrate science into all aspects of learning -- reading about science, using math in science experiments and graphing results, writing about science, and learning how scientific inventions and discoveries impact our world (social studies.) To do that, we need very specific supplies, such as measuring cylinders, eyedroppers, and small group sets of science readers.
Scientists are natural problem solvers. Isn't that what we want for our children -- the ability to solve problems rather than be overwhelmed by them?
Our world needs more scientists. You can help! Your generous donation will help active 2nd-graders explore their world while developing problem solving skills.
