My students need 4 class sets of Owl Pellet Dissection Kits.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. D.'s classroom raised $313
This project is fully funded
My students need to make science happen with their own hands. They need to witness biology in real life as opposed to textbook descriptions. I teach high school science (Biology, Chemistry and Physical Science) in a high needs area where most of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. Most of the students simply hope to graduate.
Science is everywhere around us. Science is a "learn by doing" subject that requires that kinesthetic learning approach to really grasp some of the concepts.
There are many opportunities to explore science with our eyes, ears, noses, and hands that are simply a bus ride away from school. Money for field trips is out of the question at this school. Unfortunately, this means my students only have the resources of the classroom to do their learning. Why not bring some hands-on learning of science INTO the classroom, then!?
My Biology classes would greatly benefit from the hands-on learning experience of dissecting owl pellets and analyzing the contents. An owl pellet will have the skeleton of a mouse or some rabbit bones in it. What better way to display food webs, ecological roles and the life cycle than with skeletons found in owl pellets?
With this donation, you could turn some of my students, students who don't have huge hopes for their future, on to a new subject where learning is done by "doing", not just reading textbooks.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
