Our Urban Dance Ensemble consists of students from 9th-12th grade in at a public urban high school. 90% of students live below the poverty line. While the class meets after regular school hours, all student receive course credit for their participation.
Our Urban Dance Ensemble has been in existence for two years now. While students bring their experience from all corners of the world, we have no equipment for student to create their own music by which to dance. For many of our students, this is their only opportunity to express their individuality. This equipment will allow them to express themselves in a more meaningful way.
The three pieces of recording and production equipment will allow students to write, compose, and record their original beats and songs. The mixer will allow us to borrow guitars from our school's music program and input them into our school's computers. The mike and keyboard will allow us to add further soundscapes and vocals. This will give students an outlet to express themselves, further inspiring them to remain in school and move on towards college.
Your generosity will allow our program to take ourselves to the next level. Right now, students can only dance to the pre-packaged music they hear on the radio. This equipment will allow us to record and mix our own music, so that students will have a positive outlet to express their individuality.
