The Magic World of Dramatic Play

My students need theater scripts so they can act out familiar stories with puppets, props and songs. They can increase their fluency with a read-along CD. They can listen to Shel Silverstein's poetry series with CD and fall in love with the rhythm of poetry. The children can sing rhyming songs while reading these same words on posters. Our first graders (and I would share this with our other 8 first-grade classrooms)would act out their plays and songs with a pretend stage and use the puppets and masks to overcome their shyness.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Children explore their universe in dramatic play. This is one of the best ways my first graders can express themselves. It is an excellent means for developing their creativity and imagination. They need written lines to memorize,to imitate, and to fantasize their world. They need an interesting environment and the freedom to experiment and be themselves. Many of our children come from homes where they are not able to express their inner feelings. I would like to find out how they feel about themselves by listening to them as they carry out dramatic play. This is a necessary part of human development.

Puppets fascinate and involve children in a way that few other art forms can because they allow children to enter a world of fantasy and drama so easily. The use of these puppets will provide opportunities for creative movement, dramatics and language development.

These resources such as scripts, poetry, CDs, songs, stage, puppets and masks will excite the children and help them to make sense of the world of adults. Through imitation and make-believe children sort out what they understand and gain a measure of mastery and control over events in their lives.

Your help will ensure that my students will grow in confidence as they engage in dramatic play activities. You will make it possible for the magic to come alive and help the children to be free to create whatever is needed for them, right then and there.
