This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach eleventh and twelfth graders at a continuation high school. One of my classes is an introduction to film class. I believe my students learn best by doing hands on projects. Camcorders would allow them to create their own movies.

Our school is an alternative education high school.

My students are here because they are behind in credits needed to graduate. Many of them were not successful at the traditional high school setting. We give our students an opportunity to be successful in school and in life.

My Project

My students will use these requested camcorders to create their own movies from storyboard to post production. They will be separated into production teams. They will have to work together to choose a director, camera operator, actors, and crew. They will learn that the movies they enjoy on television or in the theater did not happen by chance but the result of hard work.

This project will greatly improve my classroom experience.

Learning about movies from books and lectures has it's limitations. There is no substitution for learn by doing. I'm hoping this film making experience will engorge students to continue their film education, possibly studding video production at the local community college. It will give them a grater appreciate of the art of film.
