Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 7th grade English in a high-needs district. A vast majority of the students receive free or reduced lunch. I have a variety of students on a variety of reading levels. However, the school library is very limited and filled with books that are outdated and boring to the students.

I would like students to enjoy reading. However, with the selection of books in the school library, the students do not have the desire to read and do not enjoy reading. They complain about the limited selection of books and believe reading is boring.

I believe that if given the books that I requested, students will be eager to learn and be able to relate to what it is that they are reading. I feel that they will recognize that reading is enjoyable and learn life lessons through reading.

Your help will ensure my students that reading can be enjoyable. Also, you will make it possible to strengthen my students reading comprehension skills and fluency which are two things that students of mine need to work on.
