Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Please help my students to feel confident and successful in their mathematical abilities. I am a fourth grade math and science teacher in Texas teaching in a high risk school. My students would benefit greatly from learning to use the calculator as a tool in problem solving.
We live in a technology driven society where it is important to expose students to real world tools that are available. The majority of my students receive most of their technology exposure from the school. Many have confidence issues and have trouble deciding if their calculations are correct. It is difficult for them to finish multi-step problems when they have trouble getting past the first operations.
I need a classroom set of TI-15 calculators to help students check their work and become confident mathematicians. The use of a calculator will help them on their journey of becoming independent problem solvers. The functions that the TI-15 can do will also help them to check their work on skills other than checking operations. It will toggle between proper and improper fractions, perform operations with fractions without prior knowledge of how fractions and decimals are related, and promote algebraic thinking with self checking equations.
