Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 6th grade mathematics in an urban middle school setting in New York state. The students are both boys and girls with different learning styles and abilities. Our schools helps students learn by teaching in many different ways--visual, auditory, math/logical, natural, kinesthetic, and cooperative groupings. We try to "connect" with as many students in as many ways as we can given their individual learning styles. My project and its supplies will provide materials for group learning and share-out. Students will be able to help each other and share out what they have learned to the entire class!

I am a math teacher in an urban public school. Despite telling them to come to class prepared with all necessary supplies, sometimes they lack supplies, are disorganized, and are not ready to learn. My project and its supplies will greatly assist groups of students to work together, often finding more than one answer to an assignment, and share out to the entire class.

I need chart paper and washable colored markers so that my students will be able to work in groups and solve math problems cooperatively. Many times working together they find multiple solutions and methods to solve problems. That's great. Then they get to share out with the entire class what they have learned and the various ways to do it. This is very powerful learning and reinforcing for middle school students.

You will help me help these students do their group ("cooperative") learning and share out to reinforce what they have just learned. Students will feel more comfortable having worked together and made the lesson "their own." That's what learning is all about!
