Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

We are ready to move on to math - they are ready to learn numbers and it is time to get them counting!

My students are aged 5 to 7 and have severe Autism. They are also bright, energetic, and a whole lot of fun! It is time for my class to start learning our numbers and hopefully begin counting out loud (most of my students have limited words at this point - they'll get there, though!)

In order for any academic subject to come alive to my students it must be presented using multiple modalities. That is why I've requested the talking calculator, to let my students learn how to use a calculator while hearing the numbers aloud. I've also requested the Motor Numbers - which is a great sensorimotor tool to help students create number shapes before moving onto writing the numbers. Finally, the magnet boards and number magnets will help my students visualize the numbers as they place numbers along a numberline.

These math tools will help my kids begin counting, and hopefully they will begin saying some of the numbers as well! You will really make a difference in my classroom - although my kids may not yet be able to say it, just knowing that someone cares about their education and their future means the world. And it does to me, too. Thanks.
