Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 40 energized four and five year old bilingual preschoolers. The area I teach in is a high poverty, high risk area of the city. At times it is not safe to take my children out to the playground. With the loss of gym class this year, it is solely up to me to give these children an outlet for their energy.

Remember the days when gym class was as common as art, music, and library? All of these 'specials' have been taken away from us this year. I am extremely concerned about not having gym class for my 40 children next year. They need an outlet for their energy and I hope to create a gross motor space in my classroom for this purpose.

To create an indoor 'gym' in my classroom, we will need one 4x8 mat, one wooden rocker, and two bouncy balls. This will enable the children to release built up energy while developing their gross motor skills.

I did not think I would see the day where gym class would be cut from schools. For our preschool classroom, the day has come. With your help, we can create a gross motor development area in my classroom to enable children to grow, laugh, and learn.
