This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember what it was like to be a second grader? My second graders do! For the last 5 years I have presented my students a video memory of our year together. At first I gave each student a CD full of digital pictures which he/she could view on a computer or DVD player. Then a couple of years ago I added a digital slide show to the CD.
Last year I used my personal camcorder and digital camera to record many school events such as class activities, special programs, and field trips. At Open House I presented each child with 2 DVDs full of photos and video that I had taken during the year.
But in all these examples, it was always I who took the pictures and video. I would like the students to be able to take ownership of their school year by being the ones to document all of our activities. By having digital video cameras available for check-out to my students, our events could be captured from several different perspectives. The video cameras could also be taken home by the students when we work on activities in social studies such as documenting family history.
I am requesting 2 video cameras to be shared by my 20 second graders throughout the year. This particular model I am requesting is kid-friendly and easy to use.
Learning becomes more meaningful when the students decide what is important and create projects that document themselves.
I teach in a primarily immigrant and working class neighborhood. Most of my students are learning English as a second language. Most of them have limited access to educational enrichment activities at home. And ALL of them love to learn.
With your help their learning can continue to grow and flourish.
Thank you.
