My AP Literature students need 20 copies of Sophocles plays, 2-5 copies of "The Handmaid's Tale", "1984", "Brave New World", "Lord of the Flies", 60 copies of "The Picture of Dorian Gray" and 20 copies of "Frankenstein".

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is in a high-need community. Our school recently opened (we will begin our 3rd year this fall) to provide over-crowding relief for a neighboring high school. These students were forced to switch to a new school with all of its growing pains.
My students have all survived 12 years of an urban education. While they often feel social pressure to underachieve in school, these 80 students all envision themselves as successful college students, which is how they have ended up in my AP Literature Course.
Since we are a new school, we do not yet have access to as many core literature titles as necessary to help students do well on something like the AP exam, which requires a broad knowledge of literature.
This year, we are approaching our preparation for the AP exam by reading a core text and also by reading in literature circles other texts that are part of the canon that deal with a key theme.
In this way, we hope to expand our knowledge of a variety of texts students can use on the exam. To make this possible, we need to buy a variety of titles to allow equal opportunity and access for all of these students. While we will primarily use these books in the AP Lit class, they will be available to other teachers in other classes as well.
