Ms. Gentsch from Saint Louis MO is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need two Samsung Chromebooks and two wireless mice for debate.

"It is better to debate a question without settling it than to settle a question without debating it." ~ Joseph Joubert, French Writer
For competitive debate, I have 12 urban high school students who compete as part of the National Urban Debate League.
Each of them dedicates five or more hours during the week and thirteen to fifteen hours one Saturday a month to debate. Though NAUDL provides accommodations for tournaments, the school district does not provide all of the technology needed to keep files updated and help the students succeed. For the first three months of the season, the students have been using paper files but, are eager to learn how to use computers to advance their skills.
My students will be using these Chromebooks and wireless mice in two ways. They will be using them in the classroom in order to complete research needed to update their files to keep them up to date. They will also be using them on Saturdays during competition to read their evidence off of, and keep their debate and speeches organized in order to give their best performance. Debate season spans September until April, or June depending on how far the student advances into the national competition.
Donations to this project will give students a chance to improve their organization, personal communication, performance, and research skills.
It will also improve their self-esteem and give them something to work toward. For a lot of these students, this is what they live for because they are working to become lawyers, doctors, and teachers.
