Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach second grade in an elementary school in northeast Los Angeles. Most of my students are learning English as a second language, and ALL of them love to learn.
Since my second graders are still in their first years of formal education, I try to instill in them a love of learning that, hopefully, they will maintain into their adult lives. I want them to want to come to school every day and enjoy their school experiences.
As a result, I try to make my lessons interesting and enjoyable. With a laptop and LCD projector (from a previous DonorsChoose.org donation), I attempt to keep my students interested and engaged in their learning. Along the way, my students learn concepts and skills, and they don't even realize it.
When it comes to reviewing previously learned material in math, language arts, science, social studies, or any other subject, I want to have my students fully engaged, as well.
I am requesting two products that will assist me in these review sessions. The first item, the Eggspert, is an answering system similar to the buzzer on Jeopardy. There are six egg-shaped controllers of various colors, and each is connected by 10-foot long wires to a main base station. The teacher also has a controller to activate play.
I could use this with Jeopardy PowerPoint presentations that I have already created. After I ask a question, students press down on their controllers, and the Eggspert lights up a colored light to show who answers first.
The second product, Quizzillion, is also an answering system, but it has 4 wireless controllers. Also, controllers feature A, B, C, and D buttons, so students can "buzz in" the correct answer to multiple choice questions. In addition, Quizzillion allows the teacher to record the questions ahead of time, and it also keeps track of the score.
With these two products, I would be able to prepare my students for tests using either a single answer or multiple choice format.
As I tell my students, if you enjoy what you are doing, you are going to want to come to school.
If you come to school, you can't help but learn.
With your donation you are helping my students to be prepared for a variety of review situations, and they will actually enjoy this preparation. Who knew that learning could be so much fun?
