Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Everyday in PE, our students come into the gym, eager to use all the equipment that we have to offer them. Much of the equipment that we have, is new to them since they live in low-income areas. We expose them to a variety of games and exercises that encourage them to lead healthy lifestyles.

Our school is a Title I school in a low income area of Annapolis, MD.

Our students are only exposed to a few specific sports, mainly related to their culture. Every time a new sport is introduced, our students eat it up and are so excited and interested in every aspect of whatever we expose them to.

My Project

My students need Physical Education equipment such as tumbling mats, rubber balls, a limbo set and letter bean bags. In the PE classes at our school, we are trying unique and different ways of incorporating basic skills into games and activities. The resources that we need for our classroom are ones that we have recently had to get rid of due to excessive wear and tear. All of our students, from grades Pre-K through 5th will benefit from the equipment. The mats and limbo bar are great tools to incorporate fitness components into while our 3rd through 5th graders prepare for FitnessGram. The lettered bean bags can help our Pre-K and Kindergarten students improve on their literacy skills. In our gym, we create multidisciplinary lessons to teach to the whole child.

The donations for the project will not only give the students at our school "toys for gym class".

The equipment we are asking for will help them to learn lessons on sportsmanship, respect for property and teamwork. Our students lives will improve exponentially with the donations to this project!
