Tickling the Ivories - A Keyboard Lab

My students need keyboards to learn how to play the piano, create songs and original music; the headphones are also essential so they can work independently.

My Students

In each class the students introduce themselves by saying their name and creating a sound or movement of their choice. By the end of the year my hope is that the students will have experienced many different aspects of music. Funding is our main concern. "It takes a village to raise a child."

I teach about 700 students each week K-4.

My class sizes range from 20-28. We live in a small rural town where the poverty level is very high. My students are very eager to experience new things and love making music! Our school is the largest elementary school in the county.

My Project

I would like to set up a small keyboard lab station of 4 keyboards where the students can work independently on learning to play the piano as well as create music and songs. The students will be able to use other technology with this keyboard such as I pads and computers to assist them in creating music.

Offering students many opportunities to learn music is the best gift I can give them.

Music opens up a whole new world of learning for students. If I can spark their interest in music early it is my hope that they will appreciate and pass on the love of music as they grow into adulthood.
