Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students are grouped in cooperative learning groups. No longer is lecture the primary focus of learning but students strive to learn by self discovery and guided explorations.

My students are the typical urban high school student.
They want to learn and graduate but their foundational skills are low and their attention spans are short. However, they are very well behaved and there are no real behavioral issues. Our school is like most inner city urban schools. We do have some gang activity around the school but it never spills onto our campus. Our school has great teachers that care about getting students ready for college and the work force.
My Project
We have made the full transition into common core mathematics and that has come with some challenges. Our new textbook has many online applets and resources that are fun and interesting and visually makes the learning fun. I hope that being able to interact with some of these resources will make math more fun and keep the students engaged longer. I also have advanced placement statistics students that need Chromebooks to create graphs and do statistically analysis for the projects we do throughout the year.
These donations will help students engage and interact with math in ways they haven't before.
Many students come in with a great deal of math anxiety that makes learning difficult. I hope that with new interactive tools and resources we can overcome those hurdles and get the students better equipped and prepared to compete in a global community.
