Literature As Part Of English Class - Catcher In The Rye

My students need 26 copies of both "Catcher in the Rye" and "Rumble Fish".

Hooray! This project is fully funded

In our tiny school, a large graduating class may have 35 students. Due to the small size, I am in charge of teaching English for the entire 7th, 9th, and 11th grade. Over 50% of our students are economically disadvantaged, and sometimes, it takes a lot to get them involved with English, and to prepare them for what they will face after school.

Despite our very small size, I have no classroom sets of books. While there are a few different titles which have about 10 copies, I don't have enough of any one book to teach to an entire class. Also, it is unfortunate to say that most of the books that I do have more than one copy of are not books that hold a great deal of interest for the students, or that are appropriate for their grade/reading level.

Due to these circumstances, I would love to have classroom sets of books that the students would both enjoy and from which they would learn. A classroom set of books for my classroom would only take 26 copies. I would love to offer my 7th grade class a chance to read Rumble Fish by S.E. Hinton, and my 11th graders have shown particular interest in Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye.

Your help will ensure that my students get a taste of literature that I will have a difficult time giving them otherwise. Please help me attain the resources necessary to help teach my students skills in, but also passion for, reading.
