Students utilize technology, in many forms, alongside their work to maximize learning. Students utilize the computers in the school every day, and they have made excellent use of the existing tablets that we have in Resource. But students must leave the room to use actual computers, and that's not good!
My students this year are incredibly diverse, and they all have numerous needs that I want to keep up with every day.
If a student needs something, I want to have it prepared and ready for them before they've even thought to ask if I have it. Students have a mandatory study hall block where they should be able to utilize every single minute to their advantage. Their education is at the forefront of my priorities. They know what they need out of technology, and I will make it available to them.
My Project
We have a designated Work Table here in Resource that is reserved exclusively for student use. However, we currently only have tablets that have limited accessibility. Obtaining eight keyboard covers would make all the tablets much more accessible, especially for programs such as PowerPoint. Meanwhile laptops have full functionality, whereas our current tablets are older and limited in what they can do. It would be ideal to have these laptops available in the classroom for day to day use.
In short, students currently have to wait for up to 20 minutes before they can exit to use a full computer in the Library.
Our tablets (and soon, laptops) are always available from the first minute. That's 20 minutes saved, every block. Every day. It adds up.
