This is a very exciting year for students as they embark on their first Genius Hour! Students are challenged to explore something to do a project over that they want to learn about. Using iPads, they will research their passion project and possibly publish it.
Our 3rd graders are eager to learn.
Giving students the opportunity to choose what they learn motivates them. We are one of they only to be hosting Genius Hour, a project we hope to see spread throughout our county. We have discovered our 3rd graders become innovated and develop a drive to learn through Genius Hour.
My Project
The teacher provides a set amount of time for the students to work on their passion projects. Students are then challenged to explore something to do a project over that they want to learn about. They spend several weeks researching the topic before they start creating a product that will be shared with the class/school/world. Deadlines are limited and creativity is encouraged. Throughout the process the teacher facilitates the student projects to ensure that they are on task.
Students will be using iPads to research their passion project and possibly publish their project.
Last year we discovered how a DVD player works, how the Internet and search engines work, how to draw people, how to sew, we sent letters to the children at St. Jude's Children Hospital, and much more. We are excited to see what our students teach us this year.
