My Students

Believe it or not, NOT every teenager has a cell phone. I know I know, I was shocked too, but I noticed last year some of the students in my class did feel left out when we are researching on line or playing a whole class game like Kahoot and they didn't have a cell phone.

I have wonderful students, most are 14 and interested in being involved in a legal career and I love being their teacher.

I teach a Street Law class that brings out the best in my kids because they learn not only about the law, but the stories behind the law and their empathy and compassion is astounding. I help them think about what justice and crime means in our society and we debate and tackle tough issues like the death penalty. We look at all of the aspects of criminal justice and what is going on in the news. I have the students interact with websites and videos to know more than what the text book shows. Students love using technology to produce written work and do all kinds of things on the technology they have. This generation is tech savvy and I want to use that for their success. I do let the kids use their phones to go on line for research, but it is a problem when some students can't afford cell phones.

My Project

I am in the business of getting kids ready for college, getting them to be 21st century learners and I need all of them to have equal access to technology. I want all of them to watch the video State Farm made online about teens driving and texting, I want all of the students to interact with Jacqui's anti drunk driving website for MADD. Not every student in my class has a cell phone so a kindle would be a GREAT way to put the world of technology in the students hands. Having the kindles will allow students who don't have access to a cell phone or home computer feel included and able to complete their assignments easily. We will use the kindles in groups for research, record and play our public service announcements on laundry pods and bullying, and searching the Internet for the latest information available from the US Department of Justice. The Kindles allow kids to produce and write in a way that their contributions can be shared and accessed in a 21st century learning style.

You can make a difference in my classroom because you can put light a fire with a Kindle Fire-and help all students have access to technology.

Today's kids are learning on line and we need to embrace that and I need to help and guide them and teach them on line tools and responsibility. Not all of my students have the resources for cell phones or smart phones, so these kindles will be amazing in my class and I promise-put to good use!
