My Students

Teaching currents events helps my students connect their learning about socials studies to their world. It helps students gain passion for gaining the skill needed to create positive change in our society.

I teach all the students in the 7th grade.

They are a diverse group in every sense of the word. My students are an inquisitive, thoughtful group of students who seek engaging activities. Many of my student come from low income households and require extra assistance and encouragement to reach their potential.

My Project

The 7th grade curriculum that I teach is a modern survey of the world. Junior Scholastic is the perfect vehicle for connecting the curriculum to what is happening in the world today. It also allows me to find up to date articles that fit the reading levels of my students. Junior Scholastic provides engaging articles, graphs and even political cartoons that help shape analytical minds.

At the end of every school year students assess my class and give feedback for what worked and did work for them.

Students consistently say that for the first time in their lives they feel like they understand what is happening in the world around them. Being able to use up to date current events that are written for middle school students if perhaps best resource I have.
