This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a low income school. More than 70% of my class has a first language other than English. The parents have little education and few resources to provide educational guidance at home so they trust and rely on the school to provide this.
Few of my students have a dictionary at home and most have had little opportunity to explore and enjoy a dictionary. In the third grade we are supposed to learn dictionary skills and it is difficult to do so with our current half set that is falling apart. I know my class would be so excited to get a brand new set for the classroom.
I have requested a set of 21 hardback dictionaries to keep in the classroom so that we can master the necessary skills and enjoy the pleasures that a nice dictionary has to offer.
You really would bring joy to the class by providing new dictionaries. And you can imagine the joy it brings a teacher to see her students excited and enthusiastic over a new book!
