Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a continuation high school where students are here to gain additional credit in order to graduate from high school on time. All students are required to bring a pen or pencil to each of their classes, but that becomes expensive for the students. These materials will eliminate that expense.
The students in my room have faced many challenges in their life to get them where they are today.
Their most successful challenge is deciding to come to school. It is my responsibility to make sure that I have supplied these students with the resources they need to meet these challenges.
My Project
These pens, pencils and pencil sharpener will be used to replace student purchased pens and pencils in the classroom and eliminate the unnecessary student expense. They will also eliminate the daily problem of students not having a pen or pencil to use in class. I cannot truly know the financial status nor quality of life of any of my students at any given moment. Therefore, I hope that by providing them with a pen or pencil I am able to take away some of the burden. I feel no student should have an excuse they could not do their homework or classwork because they did not have a pencil or forgot to bring one.
My students often come to class with nothing to write with and then they face a daily struggle to borrow a pen or pencil from someone.
These pens and pencils will allow me to give them something to write with so that they can complete their assignments and not have to worry about not completing their work. When students have access to the proper materials, they perform at a higher level, they get to work faster, they feel successful and their grades go up.
