My Students

Often, special education students are looked at as if they don't deserve to learn. I will always advocate for my students to get the materials they need to succeed. Some days may be rough, but the smiles on their faces when they achieve a goal reminds me why I became a special education teacher.

This is my first year teaching and not to sound cliché, but I have the best second graders ever!

As a special education teacher in a 12:1 self-contained classroom in NYC, I feel so much pride in seeing my students really enjoy art and technology in my classroom. It is amazing to see many of my students who have low fine motor skills and emotional/ developmental delays use art to express themselves. However, we are in an extremely low income neighborhood and my students can barely afford to purchase their own school supplies. I buy most of the supplies out of my own pocket (which I don't mind because they appreciate it so much). Over 95% of the student qualify for for free lunch and over 90% receive public assistance. Knowing the future of my students depends on it, I try to provide as much art opportunities to let their creativity out!

My Project

My students need art supplies such colored pencils, a woodworking kit, paper, three table top easels, and crayons. My students will use these art supplies to enhance their learning in the classroom! Our school does not have an art or technology program so art in a cart will be the next best thing. I hope to use these art supplies to enhance my lessons in reading, writing, and math.

Your donations will help my students have a well-stocked classroom, with many of the art supplies they need for the rest of the school year.

We really hope you decide to donate. Every dollar helps! Thank you so much for considering my special students.
