My students need visual examples in order to make the concepts of art more available for them. A projector coupled with a document camera allows me to do examples for the whole class to see without having to crowd around one table.
My students attend a title I middle school in a urban setting.
They are primarily African-Americans with all other ethnic groups added in. Our students are also a mixture of optional, regular, and special education. Some of our students are of a middle class background but most are at or below the poverty line, this being the reason for us being designated a Title I school.
My Project
The projector will be coupled with a laptop and document camera. The camera allows me to demonstrate for the students the work that I wish for them to do, without everyone crowding around one small table. It also allows us to use power point and other display methods to teach students the concepts of art that they need without having to wander the room to look at poster size examples. The projector allows art pictures to be displayed in such a way that everyone can see and understand.
My students are of a modern generation that are used to television big screens and computers.
They are more impressed with see something projected onto a screen where they can all see it as they work. It also allows the use of videos to teach some techniques while I monitor and help them to understand and do the work for themselves.
