In our studio we aim to CREATE, COLLABORATE AND CONNECT with each other and our greater community through art!
Our classroom offers courses not available at any high school in our district.
Students leave their comprehensive high schools to further their learning experience with like minded peers. The majority of our students are not the typical art students, as they are gifted in areas other than the arts. Taking this course is a risk for students and often proves to be a challenge. Many of our students struggle with wanting to be perfect. They are used to being successful in academics, and it is admirable for them to step out of their comfort zone to explore their creative side. Our studio has the unique opportunity, via the visual arts, to challenge students to think creatively, be problem solvers and innovators. These qualities are essential for success in the 21st century.
My Project
Our student artists, and student body at large, will work together to create collaborative works of art which will be displayed as a symbol of a creative, collaborating community. Students will be invited and encouraged to paint at any time during class. Students will be able to create even during traditional sit times. The Central Collective paintings will travel throughout the building, visiting other non-art class rooms, where all students will be invited to tap into their creative side.
In a school driven by individual performance, these paintings will allow the students to visualize what they can accomplish together.
Funding this project will give our students access to materials we otherwise would not have in our classroom. These materials will help us create a visual symbol of collaboration in the classroom. The Central Collective will allow individual creativity to flourish while encouraging a spirit of unity, teamwork and community pride.
