My students need a wireless Bamboo drawing tablet with accessory kit and a large monitor to assist them in learning Adobe digital media and graphic design software.
Teaching advanced computer classes in a small high school can be a challenge because of the need for expensive software and hardware. This hardware requested is a first step in helping the school district get enough tablets and large monitors for the whole class.
The area Sabine High School serves is a small, rural community.
Many of our students do not have access to computers in their homes, or they spend little time working with advanced software. Improving computer skills for all students is of great importance so that students can be prepared for jobs in our increasingly technological world. My students are tackling subjects like computer programming, video production, graphic design, web design, digital media, and yearbook production. The hardware we are asking for will help outfit their advanced computer classroom. Here's what my students had to say:
- "Adding these tablets to the classroom allows us to increase our graphic skills."
-"Since everything is affected by technology, it is important to learn how to use advanced applications."
- "We can use this equipment to improve our real world skills that will be needed outside the classroom."
My Project
Students will be able to use the drawing pads and the large monitor to create brochures, magazine layouts, animations, artwork for websites, illustrator projects, desktop publishing projects, etc. The tablets will allow them more control than using a mouse to draw objects on the screen. The wireless feature will allow them to show and edit their projects through the classroom projector so that other students can give them ideas or critique their work in real time. Large monitors are critical in increasing productivity when doing close-up work. Trying to align an object or work with a photo can be tedious when using standard-size monitors. Providing the best equipment and training for our students is critical to their future success.
Since so many high school students learn better from doing than listening, the type of complex assignments these computer classes work on become relevant and valuable for students because they enjoy hands-on learning.
Employers are grateful when they have employees coming out of high school who already have advanced computer skills, but students can not reach those standards if they do not have the materials they need. Helping them helps all of us.
