My project needs a variety of different fantasy book from authors like Roald Dahl, Dav Pilkey, Louis Sachar, J.K. Rowling, Lynne Reid Banks, and others.

As a fourth grade teacher in a low-income community in New York City I am dedicated to promoting literacy in my classroom. As an avid and passionate reader, I am constantly seeking out ways to foster a love of books in my students. With lofty goals, like a year and a half's growth in reading levels, I am open to many different ideas. Presently, I would say that my students are making significant progress in their studies. They are reading more now than ever before and I am finally seeing them excited about their independent and guided reading time. Mostly, they read graphic novels and Baby-Sitters' Club books. As excited as I am to see them reading, I want to continue to push them to discover more and more types of literature. In my classroom library, I would love to have books available from an important and sometimes neglected genre: fantasy. I remember how reading the words of Lynne Reid Banks in the "Indian and the Cupboard" series captivated me as a child, and I can still recall how the words of Roald Dahl had me looking for giants and trying to shoot sparks out of my eyes. I also want them to try reading newer fantasy books like the "Time Warp Trio" books. I want my children to experience the fantastic world of imagination that these and other authors can show them. I want to give my students the opportunity to experience losing themselves in history while also improving their reading skill and ability. With your donation, you will make history come alive for my students and you will help to open the doors to a brighter future for them. Thank you.
