Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My kids love to try out new things. Unfortunately, we are in a financially challenged area and they don't get these opportunities very often.

Most of my students live in the projects; some stay in homeless shelters.

My school is in a very poor area, and our budget is pretty much non-existent. I buy a lot of our supplies myself because I feel so strongly that my kids deserve the chance to try projects that only wealthier school systems presently have access to. We're also lucky to have local donors and the kind souls from Donorschoose who have helped out.

My Project

On the first day of the school year, I wore a necklace made out of Sculpey clay. My students went wild for it and asked if they could make jewelry of their own. I told them that if I could figure out a way to get the supplies donated, I'd show them how I made my necklace. They've asked me several times over the course of the school year if we would be doing this project. Please help me me give my kids a special end of the school year project to create and cherish!

My students have so little.

For them to be able to make a unique piece of jewelry of their own, would be so special. I'm a first year teacher and they'd have something to remember from this very special year for all of us.
